The field of engineering is a discipline that has started way back the ancient times. It has paved the way for many important inventions and innovations. This is the field of study whereby humans machines and structures applying scientific, techninical and mathematical knowledge.

Ever since the dawn of time, man has always been a sucker for discovery and inventions. From the earliest known tools like the lever and pulley to the great structures of the ancient world to the skyscrapers we see these days and the apparent speed at which technology advances - all these stand testament to man's inherent need to design, plan and create.

Engineering is a world unto itself. It is a broad discipline and there are many branches of it that deals with different areas. The main branches of which are chemical, civil, electrical and mechanical engineering.

Chemical engineers are tasked to exploit chemical processes and devise a method through which these processes can be made to form new materials we can use. Civil engineers are the one who mostly deal with the plans and construction of infrastructures. While electrical engineers deals with various areas of studies such as telecommunications, optical fibers and electric circuits and devices. And mechanical engineers deals with designing physical or mechanical equipments such as vacuums and engines.

There are however, emerging fields of study that was brought about by the needs of technological advancements. Such studies include robotics, software, computer and agricultural engineering, among others. However, these new branches of engineering often times combine with the traditional ones fostering even more fields of study.

Engineering is a vast field that incorporates other disciplines as well. For example, many times, there is little distinction between science and engineering. Both deals relies on empirical data and analysis. The field of engineering also have a connection with arts as both deals with design. And most renowned structure in the ancient as well as the modern world are both feats of artistic and engineering ingenuity.

I find it small wonder then that engineering is a well respected profession all over the world. Engineers are simply the men and women who are behind most of the tools and gadgets we use these days to make work easier.

We have progressed rapidly due to the overwhelming creations and inventions within this century. Most of which can be attributed to the several feats of engineering discovery. And all of this is a true testament of man's innate ingenuity that allows him to imagine and discover and create a world that has never been.
